It’s an obvious thing to say maybe, but if you wear comfortable and practical clothes on moving day it can make all the difference.
You need to be able to move around easily, you will be on your feet all day, and you should also think about the weather as well (wear layers as you will get hotter throughout the day doing so much physical stuff, and will no doubt want to take layers off).
The last thing you want to be doing is trying to find some different clothes halfway through the move.
Remember you are not limited to colors, shapes or themes. But it can be fun to get food stickers for the kitchen, pet stickers for your pets things, flowers or frilly ones for the girls and trucks or sports for the boys. Keep in mind this is supposed to be a fun way to get the kids involved and keep them interested in their move. Have them place the stickers in the same area on each box in a visible area so that when moving day arrives it is easy for the movers to see. You will be amazed at how quickly this will help your move go if all boxes are clearly labeled and ready to go. If you have time you can have them create their labels out of construction or colored paper.
So heres a summary of what are some very useful moving tips (from Calgary movers) :
Your current home works for you – without really having to think about things anymore. You have the right flooring, furniture, window dressings etc. that fit your lifestyle.
However, when you move you may have agreed to leave certain things in the house such as curtains, freezer etc…
As such, it’s worth making a list of these things, remembering to leave them behind and not pack them (put a sticker on things that the removals company shouldn’t touch to be safe).
You don’t want to end up moving only to find you have brought something with you that you shouldn’t have!
I always suggest going around your home and taking photos of your valuables and breakables before they get packed up.
If for any reason things get broken, damaged or lost during the moving process, at least you have a record of them. (Just quick snaps on the camera on your mobile phone will be good enough).
TIP – It’s worth doing this anyway for things in your house, as it can help with insurance claims if you get burgled or there’s a fire etc.. – I use the home inventory in my Home File for this.
By now your car will be very full! (valuables, paperwork, essentials box and a box for each child), but there’s one thing extra thats worth taking with you – and that is bedding.
If you have your bedding ready to go when you get to your home – whether you arrive late at night or have more time to unpack, you know that you have something to sleep on and be more comfortable on that first night.
After all – things can go slowly on moving day, and you may not get your keys until it’s really too late to start unpacking – so best be prepared!.
Go to your rental agency with a general idea of what size of truck you need based on the above estimates, and also provide them with a list of all your large items and the number of each that you have to move. For instance, you might have three couches or two king-sized beds or two fridges to move. Often, larger items or specialty items will require a larger truck and possibly special moving tools.
While using a truck rental company’s estimate when selecting the right size of truck or trailer to rent may be helpful, keep in mind that this is merely an estimate. Some people have much more substantial furnishings, more things, and tons of stuff crammed into every closet and cabinet. Other packrats even have entire garages jam-packed with items from floor to ceiling. A smart way to better estimate a suitable truck size is to attempt to cluster your things together, such as in an unused formal dining room, a garage or another large space. This effort also helps you prep for the move. When you pack a place full of items and measure the area, you will have a better idea about the right truck size for your needs.
An important factor many people overlook is the distance of the move. If you are relocating to a new home in-town or just a short distance away, you may feel comfortable estimating your truck needs on the low end. After all, you can always make two trips if you run out of truck space. On the other hand, if you are making a long distance move, it is not practical to make multiple trips. Estimating on the higher end may be beneficial. If you get in a bind, you can always rent a trailer to tow behind your car for additional space.
The steps that you take to prepare for moving day can make or break your overall moving experience. Apply these tips to estimate better the truck size that is suitable for your needs.
You will likely find that a larger truck (see medium sizes below) costs the same or sometimes less than a small truck. This is because most companies don’t have an extensive inventory of small trucks whereas they usually have a large inventory of medium trucks.
Medium truck sizes are best used for 1-2 bedroom apartments as well as small homes. We typically don’t recommend this size to anyone with more than 1200 SqFt of living space.

If you’re moving locally this should be a no-brainer. Truck rentals used for local moves are billable at a per day and mileage rate, the daily price may vary by $10-$20 depending on the size. In other words, spend the extra few bucks and get the larger truck just to be sure.
Tips and tricks to make moving house easy and stress free.
Keep drawers intact by covering them with Press’n Seal. Dresser drawers are like their own moving boxes – this will keep you from having to unpack and refold their contents.It’ll also make moving the actual dresser much more manageable.
Many movers come with insurance, which means if something breaks, they have to compensate you. You might want to weigh the pros and cons though – they won’t want to be responsible for a television that isn’t properly packed in its original box and could end up charging you upward of $150 to pack it as they see fit. Also remember to book them weeks in advance – you’re not the only person trying to get out of your space on the last day of the month.
Decluttering is essential to do every now and then, but it’s even more important before moving house. Before even attempting to pack, you should decide what to sell, donate or throw out.
You’ll be glad of it come moving day and believe us, the removal guys will be glad that they don’t need to shift your lava lamp, inflatable chair and broken down computers.
I am not an advocate of off site storage, as it usually ends up costing money to store all the things we really don’t need – but when it comes to moving house there is good reason to use it under certain circumstances.
Often we want to do work on our new house pretty soon after moving in.

The Aero Space Museum focuses on the history of Canadian aviation and Western Canada in particular. Canadian pilots who fought in WWII started the museum, which has grown to exhibit a variety of aircraft, simulators, aviation art prints, radio equipment, and information on aviation history. The museum is located in a large building near the Calgary Airport.

Heritage Park Historical Village
This living history museum features more than 180 attractions and exhibits that re-create Western Canadian history from the 1860s to the 1950s. Interact with costumed interpreters, explore pioneer homes and businesses, ride a steam train, board a paddlewheeler on the Glenmore Reservoir, try antique rides and games, and enjoy Western Canadian cuisine at Selkirk Grille. The Hangar Flight Museum
Formerly known to locals as the Aerospace Museum of Calgary, The Hangar Flight Museum was originally used as a drill hall for the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in 1941. Visit over 20 exhibits that commemorate Canadian flight history, from the first jet combat aircraft to the world’s first certified helicopter.
